What was life like before some of the electronic gadgets today?

For an assignment task I was asked to interview some one, in this case my mum, Mrs Maree Lea, about what life was like without things like ATM’s, mobile phones, Colour television and computers, and to record my results and write a conclusion.

Q1) what was life like before ATM’s and what did people use?
It was not as simple as it is today to use ATM’s and eftpos as a way to get money. Before ATM’s and eftpos people would have to go to a bank and see a teller to get money and they would give the teller a passbook or a bank book.

Q2) before mobile phones how did people contact each other quickly?
People would use public phones and would have home phones. Though not many people had home phones because they were happy writing letters or simply thought that it was to expansive.

Q3) what was it like before colour television?
If people had televisions they where black and white. When colour television was released in Australia is was very expansive so at first not many people bought them but eventually the prices went down and people bought them.

Q4) what did you do before computers?
Type writers where used often, also instead of E-mails telegrams where used as a form of quick messaging. Also some couriers where used to deliver important documents. Because there was no such thing as the internet the libraries where used for information and also the archives.

Q5) what do you think about today’s electronic gadgets?
Today’s technology has proved to be a great educational tool as well as helped create further advancements in technology itself. Though It has decreased jobs and it seems when there is a mistake made that there no longer is a person to blame it on because it is a computer error. Technology has also made people more lazy minded and also physically lazy they are also less in turned to there basic instincts, they now rely on there technology to find answers. It desensitizes people to violence and other atrocities, it enables corruption and even in the end as good as computers it seems that they cannot trace the information that is really needed. The internet can lead to invasion of privacy and can also make theft easier. The internet is this generation’s new drug.

My personal comment about technology
I think that technology has improved greatly and is very useful. I think that things like ATM’s, mobile phones, colour television and computers have just blended in and are used everyday and have become a way of life.
The technology used in these gadgets seems to improve more and more, there always seems to be a new mobile phone that looks better and can store more information or a computer that works faster and nowadays this is what people want have become used to. My family and I use most of these electronic gadgets at least once a day. Technology keeps getting better and faster.
